Open and Affordable Course Materials

What Queen’s is Doing

Queen’s, Open and Affordable Course Materials Working Group, reporting to the Provost’s Advisory Committee on Teaching and Learning, was formed in Fall 2016.   This cross-campus group includes membership from the AMS, SGPS, faculty representatives, the Campus Bookstore, the Centre for Teaching and Learning, and Queen’s University Library.

Our Goals:

In establishing a community of practice at Queen's which facilitates the use and development of open and affordable course readings, textbooks and other learning objects in support of academic programs, the goals of this group are to:

  • Provide course materials for students at the lowest possible cost
  • Make best use of resources Queen’s already pays for (i.e. subscribed/purchased library content)
  • Increase the availability of accessible course materials for students with disabilities
  • Reduce piracy and copyright infringement
