Questions to ask

 

  •  Where did this information come from?

 

  •  Is the author of the source clearly stated?

 

  •  Are there contact details for the author?

 

  • Does the author list their credentials and affiliations, and can they be verified?

 

  • Is the information supported by evidence?

 

  • Has the information been peer reviewed or refereed?

 

  • Are there spelling, grammar, or other typographical errors?
     
  • Is the publication organized logically? Are the main points clearly presented? Do you find the text easy to read, or is it stilted or choppy? Is the author's argument repetitive?
     

If the source conducted its own research:

  • What methods were used to collect this information/data? 
     
  • What was the sample size or population?
  • How were conclusions drawn? Are they supported by strong data?

 

Bottom line: Can you trust that this information is true?
