Use Omni to locate books, book chapters, or ebooks on your topic.
The default search in Omni is simple or Basic Search. Enter one or more of your topic keywords into the Omni search box.
Basic search supports the use of Boolean operators: AND, OR or NOT, and they must be entered in uppercase. For example:
To search for a specific phrase, type quotation marks around the phrase. For example:

Find information on the topic of athletes who are transgender. Search: athletes AND transgender
Narrow or Refine Your Search
Narrow or refine search by adding other terms.
For example: Olympics AND transgender AND athletes
Broaden Your Search
Broaden your results by using the * symbol to truncate for variable word endings or by using OR between similar terms nested in brackets.
For example: (Olympics OR "Olympic Games") AND athlete* AND transgender
*Please note that the default search in Omni includes the holdings of Queen's University Library AND the physical holdings of our Omni partner libraries in Ontario.
Use the Advanced Search option for more precise searching. Using the drop-down options within the Advanced Search screen you can limit your search to specific fields and/or a combination of fields (Author, Title, Subject, Call number). You can also specify that your search words must be contained in the search field ("contains", "starts with" or "is (exact)."
You can Modify your search results by using the filters on the left side of the screen. For example, modify your results by Resource Type such as Book Chapters, Books and eBooks etc.
Newspaper results are excluded from the default search. Click Newspapers search to search within newspapers.
One way to find books published by a University Press is to look in the bibliographic record.
You can also go to the Databases page and search for the name of a University Press such as Cambridge University Press or search for the term University Press and choose one of the options listed. Search for your topic within the collection.
