Alternative metrics ('altmetrics') are social media indicators and other web-based analytics used to demonstrate the potential impact and reach of scholarly research outputs.
For example, altmetrics can include data from social media, research blogs, or news articles. They can also include article-level metrics that go beyond citation counts, such as the number of downloads for an article.
Altmetrics are often used to supplement more traditional citation metrics, in order to paint a more complete picture of your research impact in the digital world.
The Library's guide, Evaluating Research Impact Using Altmetrics, provides in-depth information on specific tools you can use to collect altmetrics.
