HLTH 351: Health in Humanitarian Crises

Using Omni to Find Articles

Omni includes content from the various research databases to which QUL subscribes but not everything is included.

When searching Omni for articles:

  • Apply the same search strategies you used for finding books.
  • Use the filters located along the left-hand side of the search screen to modify or refine your results.
  • Apply the filter limit to Peer-reviewed Journals and Articles.

Using Databases

For information on how to effectively use a database, please go to Health Sciences Research: Database Searching. Here you will learn the difference between a basic and advanced search; how to identify key concepts or terms; and database limits.

Journal Articles

Scholarly journal articles are very important sources for research as they contain current research in a given field and often focus on a particular aspect of a topic.

To locate articles on your topic, use Omni or an index or database such as the ones recommended on this guide. If you are looking for information on a very specific topic, or a topic that is subject specific, it is recommended that you search databases that specialize in that subject area for more thorough results.

Because topics in HLTH 351 can be multi-faceted, your research may draw upon a wide variety of disciplines and resources.

Key Indexes and Databases

Multidisciplinary Databases

Multidisciplinary databases index a great number of publications and allow you to search across the disciplines. They are a good resource to use when you begin your research.
