Community Access

This guide provides information about open-access resources and services available to Kingston community members, teachers, and Queen's alumni.

Community

  • Please visit one of our library service desks during regular business hours to get a library card, which is free of charge. A piece of ID will be required to create your account.
  • Community members can borrow from a variety of our physical collections. Up to 20 items at a time can be borrowed for a two-week loan period.
  • Due to licensing agreements, community members do not have remote access to subscription-based library e-resources. However, you are welcome to search Omni for freely available open access content or to use library computers on campus to access most subscription-based e-resources in person by using library computers.

Queen's Alumni

  • Please visit one of our library service desks during regular business hours to get a library card. This card permits users to borrow from our physical collections.
  • Alumni have access to a select list of databases that provide off-campus access to library e-resources. To access these resources, you must:
    • Activate your Queen’s email and NetID through Queen’s IT Services.
    • Email the library to set up your alumni account in our system and get remote access to a select list of e-resources. Be sure to include your student number, NetID, preferred email, and first & last name.

Library Access

The libraries at Queen's are open to members of the public. Researchers and visitors are welcome to visit any campus library to consult and make use of:

  • Our academic search tool, Omni
  • print and microform collections
  • self-service printers and copiers
  • basic information services
  • reading rooms

While everyone is always welcome in our spaces, we do ask that members of the community be mindful of student exam periods as the libraries are at capacity during these times and finding study space is important to student success.
