Introduction

EndNote basic (sometimes called EndNote online or EndNote web)

  • EndNote basic is a free, more limited reference management solution (than the EndNote desktop version that is not free), intended for users new to research and writing, that is only available online. EndNote basic users can create an online library with a maximum of 50,000 references and up to 2GB of attachments.  
  • The free version of EndNote basic has 21 styles and a limited number of filters and connection files. This version is available to anybody, with no other purchase required.

What EndNote basic can do for you

  • From research to publication, EndNote basic gives you the tools for learning how to do research, cite sources, write term papers, and even match your manuscript to a scientific journal.
  • Create an online account to search, save and use your research sources.
  • Save and organize the references you find (up to 50,000).
  • Integrate with Microsoft® Word to properly cite and format your paper.
  • Choose from popular bibliography formats, including MLA and APA style.
  • Use manuscript matcher to identify the best journal for your research to be published.

Exporting Citations from PubMed into EndNote Basic


General instructions for exporting citations from PubMed:

Export option (from PubMed)

  • Select the desired citations
  • Open "Send To" drop down menu
  • Select "Citation Manager"
  • Click "Create File"

Import option (into EndNote Basic)

  • PubMed (NLM)
  • Specify to which group the records will be added or create a new group

Note: It is not possible to download the corresponding full-text article(s) from PubMed when exporting citations, however, you can upload full-text articles to their corresponding citation after importing citations from PubMed.
