There are three main types of false information (definitions are from UNESCO)
- Disinformation is information that is false, and was created with the intention of causing harm to a person, social group, organization, or country
- Misinformation is information that is false, but was not created with the intention of causing harm
- Mal-information is information based in reality, but is used to cause harm to a person, social group, organization, or country.
This guide includes classroom resources, teacher resources, organizations, and other materials to assist teacher candidates and other educators to identify all types of false information and improve media literacy in their classrooms.
