Introduction

Welcome to the POLS-384 library course guide. It has been designed to introduce students to the library's political studies-focused research tools and provide the guidance required for them to be searched effectively and efficiently.

The learning outcomes of this guide are as follows:

  • distinguish between the most common types of citation e.g. book or article;
  • understand the concepts of "peer review" and, broadly, "scholarly" as pertains to resources;
  • develop an ability to refine search results in Omni, the library's search tool, and Proquest Politics; and
  • understand the value of critically appraising information as a crucial component of the research process
