In her book, Walking the Clouds, Anishinaabe scholar Grace Dillon coined the term “Indigenous Futurisms” to describe an emergent genre of Indigenous speculative fiction that deals with stories about the future of Indigenous peoples. Indigenous studies scholar Daniel Heath Justice has since built on Dillon’s analysis by substituting Dillon’s term “fantasy” with the term “Wonderworks” to highlight work that incorporates both realism and the fantastical in their storytelling.
