This Quick Reference Guide is intended for use by instructors and instructional designers of courses that are intended to generate profit or revenue for the university. The majority of undergraduate and graduate courses are regarded as non-commercial courses and the educational exceptions within the Copyright Act are therefor applicable. These exceptions will not apply to courses that are offered for commercial purposes, such as continuing education, professional development, and corporate training courses. In many cases, permissions and licensing will be required in order to reproduce, distribute, and communicate content to students enrolled in courses that generate profit or revenue for the university.
