Finding Images in Books

Books are a really good source of images, particularly if you have a specific image in mind. Try searching Omni for books on your topic or browsing the shelves in your subject area.
 
If you find a relevant title in Omni, look at the full citation (under details, noting under Format to see if the book is illustrated and whether the illustrations are in colour.
 

Finding Images in Journals

Many journals and magazines are illustrated and are an excellent source of images which are current and topical.  Refer to our selected list of illustrated magazines and check Omni for their holdings and location, focusing on your area and year(s) of interest.

Many indexes and journals that the library subscribes too allow users to search specifically for pages containing images. Simply look for "page image" in the filter options, or "captions" or "illustration" in drop down menus. Below are a few examples

Limit search results to documents with images.

Indexes selected Canadian periodicals, including Maclean's (1905-1976) and Saturday Night (Sept. 11, 1909-Dec. 26, 1914 and Jan. 3, 1920-Dec. 29, 1945).
