Distinguish Yourself with an ORCID iD

ORCID Across the Research Life-cycle

ORCID is a non-profit organization supported by a global community of organizational members, including research organizations, publishers, funders, professional associations, and other stakeholders across the research ecosystem.

ORCID iDs are increasingly being seamlessly integrated into the research workflows used by publishers, funders, professional associations, and other stakeholders across the research ecosystem.  This means that you can automatically ensure all your past and forthcoming grant awards, publications and other academic achievements are correctly attributed to you (and not a peer with a similar name).

Enter Once, Reuse Often

ORCID reduces manual data entry and form-filling.

Having an ORCID iD can enable the sharing of information between systems, which can help with both maintaining records and reporting.

For example, in a funding application or journal submission that requires information about the authors, an ORCID iD can be entered instead of manually entering details.

Activities can also be maintained by authorizing trusted sources to update the information on the ORCID record. If an ORCID iD was used for the submission of a manuscript, the publisher system can update the ORCID record with citation information upon publication of the article. This means that ORCID can both push and pull information, and help to reliably and easily connect the researcher to their contributions and affiliations, thus increasing accuracy in attribution, and saving valuable time with data entry.
