Distinguish Yourself with an ORCID iD

How to Use Your ORCID iD

Be discoverable - make your ORCID record public

When you create your ORCID record your information (except your ORCID iD) is automatically private (hidden).  Be discoverable and make your ORCID record public, (via your ORCID account settings) and include it anywhere you want to ensure others discover the complete profile of your research.  For example:

  • When prompted in manuscript submission systems, grant applications, and other research workflows including Faculty180
  • On your CV, faculty web page, your signature line
  • Add it to your social network accounts such as Twitter, LinkedIn, academia.edu, Mendeley, ResearchGate etc.

Reduce duplicate data entry

When you provide your iD (e.g. to a publisher when submitting your manuscript) you may be prompted to grant permissions to that trusted organization to automatically add the citation for the newly published manuscript to your ORCID record.

Until you choose to revoke these permissions (in your ORCID account settings) a trusted organization may continuously update your record with information that it can validate and share, thus reducing unnecessary duplicate data entry..
