Publishers or editors may use altmetrics to:
- Demonstrate the reach, engagement and influence of articles published in their journal or publication in order to encourage new author submissions.
- Glean insights from attention metrics to inform editorial decisions about future themes or topics or scope of the publication.
- Identify general trends that the public or other non-academic audiences such as policy makers may be interested in and which could be topical areas in future publications.
