Research data management (RDM) refers to the practices applied throughout the lifecycle of a research project to guide the planning, collection, documentation, and preservation of research data (Tri-Agency 2021).

RDM activities are integral to conducting responsible research and can help researchers save resources and time by ensuring data are complete, understandable, and secure:

• Plan how you will manage your data at the start of the project.
• Meet grant and publishing requirements.
• Ensure compliance with ethics and privacy policies.
• Increase the impact and visibility of research results.
• Encourage the discovery and reuse of research data.
• Safeguard research data for future reuse through long-term preservation and stewardship.

Queen’s University Library (QUL) can help faculty, staff, and students on a variety of RDM topics research data including:

• Consultations on RDM considerations, including the impact/interpretation of the Tri-Agency RDM Policy.
• Assistance with the development of data management plans (DMPs) and using the DMP Assistant Tool.
• Advising on issues related to research data storage, backup, documentation, and metadata.
• Assistance with the selection of an appropriate research data repository for deposit.
• Review and curation of data deposits into the Queen’s Dataverse Collection.
