Workshop Descriptions

Join us for an introduction to systematic and scoping reviews. In this session/hands-on workshop, you'll explore the distinctions between different review types, get started with developing a focused research questions using a framework, and gain an understanding of the why and how  with confidence.

You’ve learned about what a systematic and scoping review entails, and you have a research question or topic. Or maybe you’re just curious right now. So, what comes next? Join us for a session on protocol development. In this session, you'll learn about the purpose and benefits of a protocol and explore what to include and how to register it.

Take your research skills to the next level with searching techniques for systematic and scoping reviews, where you'll discover how to select the most appropriate databases for your research question and master the essential components that make a literature search exhaustive and reproducible. You'll gain hands-on experience through a live demonstration of Ovid MEDLINE and dedicated working session where you can develop your own search strategy with personalized guidance and support from two experienced librarians.

This hands-on workshop includes a mix of instruction and hands-on practice for you to work on your search with Librarian support. To get the most out of the hand-on component, it is recommended to come prepared with a research question and 3-5 relevant articles that you would expect to be included in your final review.

Have you heard the term ‘grey literature’ and always wonder what it means? In this workshop, you'll discover what grey literature is and when it is most valuable for your research, including how it can fill gaps and provide access to current, specialized, or practice-based information. The workshop will also provide some hands-on training to help you use advanced search features of Google to help you locate and access these important but often hard-to-find resources.

Complete your systematic or scoping review workflow as you learn the essential skills of translating searches across multiple databases, seamlessly importing records into Covidence, and setting up your review space to suit your needs. You'll master the technical aspects of moving from search to screening and learn how to properly document and report your search methodology in your final manuscript.

This hands-on workshop includes a mix of instruction and hands-on practice for you to work on your project with Librarian support.
