Ensuring that videos are accessible requires adding a text equivalent of spoken words through captions, transcripts, or a description of the audio.
Image-based icons that identify essential functions such as captions, transcripts, video player settings, and more have been added to 45 video/audio databases in the library's A-Z list.
The library has DVD and VHS videos available to borrow and licensed access to multiple collections of streamed video content. Many of the videos in these collections are captioned with transcripts.
Please follow these steps to locate captioned videos in the library's streaming collection.
The library makes every effort to acquire videos that are closed captioned. However, some content in our collections may be inaccessible including older films or films from vendor platforms that may not offer that functionality.
Individuals who require closed captioning and/or a transcript for a video in one of our subscription video collections should contact the Adaptive Technology Centre at adaptive.technology.centre@queensu.ca with the title of the film. These requests are only for library owned or streamed items. Obtaining closed captioning is a time-consuming process, please plan accordingly.
