Academic Integrity

Use of Generative AI at Queen's

As of July 2024:

  • There is no overall ban on the use of generative AI tools.
  • Instructors should provide students with specific parameters for AI use in the course syllabus.
  • Unauthorized use of generative AI tools is considered a “departure from academic integrity.”
  • AI detection tools should not be used due to privacy and reliability issues.

Departure from Academic Integrity

Last updated in October 2023, two sections apply to the use of artificial intelligence:

  • Section 2.2.2: Plagiarism – presenting ideas, words, or work, created by others or by technological assistance, as if they are one’s own or without proper attribution/citation.
  • Section 2.2.3: Unauthorized Content Generation – is the production of academic work, in whole or in part, for academic credit, progression, or award, using unapproved or undeclared human or technological assistance.
