Deposit your files in preferred file formats to support preservation and reuse.
The use of preferred file formats is important to support the long-term preservation of your research data.
Preferred formats are usually:
- Non-proprietary (e.g., TXT, CSV, JPG, etc.)
- Open, with documented international standards
- Use standard character encoding, preferably Unicode (e.g., UTF-8)
- Uncompressed
If you deposit your files in Borealis, the Canadian Dataverse Repository, files in any tabular format will be converted to a tab-delimited file format automatically. Both the original file (such as MS Excel) and the converted file will be available in your dataset.
