These topics can be distressing for students, especially for Indigenous students who may have a personal or familial history with them. The following resources are available for students who need support.

Hope for Wellness Help Line The Hope for Wellness Help Line offers immediate help to all Indigenous peoples across Canada. It is available 24/7 for counselling and crisis intervention both over the phone and through online chat.
KUU-US Crisis Line Society A non-profit registered charity that provides 24 hour crisis services through education, prevention, and intervention programs. Includes a dedicated youth line.
Kids Help Phone Provides 24/7 mental health support for kids, over the phone, by text message, or in online chat. Includes resources like tips and information, and games and activities to help kids learn more about mental health.
National Family and Survivor Circle: Crisis and Support Info In response to the 231 Calls for Justice and the Principles for Change from the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, the establishment of the National Family and Survivors Circle (NFSC) was supported by Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs to provide guidance on how to engage families, survivors, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ people in the development and implementation of a National Action Plan. The NFSC is comprised of Indigenous women from diverse backgrounds. (from the Who We Are page)

Highway of Tears

The Highway of Tears is a stretch of Highway 16 between Prince George and Prince Rupert, BC, where women have regularly gone missing since 1970. The number of missing or murdered women is disputed - an RCMP task force lists 18 cases, while counts by family members and advocates is over 50.

This open access textbook discusses the global phenomenon of femicide in colonized countries, including Canada. Includes perspectives from family members, scholars and researchers, artists, activists and policy-makers.
Section 7 is especially relevant to educators. It is written for postsecondary institutions, but many of the ideas are relevant for high school as well.
