Kindergarten Resources

This guide offers recommendations for teacher candidates seeking resources for their Kindergarten classrooms and for their own professional learning in early years learning.

Demonstrating Literacy and Mathematics Behaviours

Kindergarten program cover “Children’s play is representational and provides the foundation for literacy and numeracy”. (Council of Ministers of Education, Canada, Statement on Play-Based Learning, 2012, p. 14) -- The Kindergarten Program, 2016.

A big component of the kindergarten document is play. Play is virtual for children to engage in because it helps them to learn skills. The more curious the child is about a certain topic, the more they are eager to learn. Children can learn with math manipulatives such as pattern blocks and tiles. Integrating literacy and math is also an excellent way to teach children.
