Canadian Legal Research Manual

This reference work was created by the Lederman Law Library to support Queen’s students learning legal research skills.

International Law

International law (or public international law) refers to the law that governs the relationships between states and the relationship between states and intergovernmental organizations. This is in contrast to private international law (or conflict of laws), which refers to the interaction between conflicting domestic laws of different countries.

This section of the research guide focuses on public international law. For more resources on private international law see the Law Library's Conflict of Laws Guide.
