To find books on a topic, search the Queen's Catalogue (QCAT) by author, title, subject headings, or keyword.
To find books by a particular author/person, search QCAT by author:

garcia marquez, gabriel
To find books about a particular author/person, search QCAT by subject heading:
guevara, ernesto, 1928-1967
garcia marquez, gabriel, 1928-
To find books on a topic, use a keyword booleansearch if you do not know the correct subject heading for a topic. Think of the focus (or key) words that describe your topic.

Some useful Latin American Studies subject headings are:

Latin America - history - 19th century
Latin America - politics and government
Latin America - social conditions
Developing countries - economic conditions
Political culture - Latin America
Social change - Latin America
Chile - foreign relations - United States (for example; choose country of interest)
Latin American literature - to 1800
Latin American literature - history and criticism
These are just some examples. It is always a good idea to look at all the subject headings ("Subject(s)") in QCAT in the full record of books that are relevant to your topic. Often books will be catalogued with a number of subject headings under which you can search for related resources.
