Upon launch, Read&Write desktop toolbar sits as an overlay at the top of your screen. The default view of the toolbar will have twenty-two icons. You can select and deselect icons in Settings.
Check It finds spelling and grammar errors in your written work.
Prediction is a word prediction function. It suggests words for your writing based on word banks and your previous writing.
Dictionary provides the definition of the word you are reading or writing.
Picture Dictionary provides an image of what a word you are reading or writing means.
Rewind allows you to move the audio starting point backwards so you can hear something again.
Play will read your audio aloud depending on text you have highlighted or where your cursor is on the page.
Pause will pause the audio playback. To resume reading, click "Pause" again.
Fast Forward allows you to skip audio.
Stop will stop the audio.
Screenshot Reader allows you to take a screenshot of text you can't read with a screen reader, such as text in an image, and reads it aloud.
Scan takes a PDF or image and runs it through Optical Character Recognition to make it readable with Read&Write.
Audio Maker creates an MP3 audio file of your text document.
Screen Masking hides all but a line or a paragraph of text to limit distractions and help you keep your reading place.
Talk and Type is a speech-to-text feature built into Read&Write. Speak into your microphone and it will record it as text.
Translator allows you translate word you highlight. Adjust your settings to choose the you want to translate to and from.
PDF Reader opens your PDFs through Read&Write to read it aloud. You can still access other Read&Write tools.
Highlighters highlight selected text in different colours.
Erase Highlights removes highlights from selected text.
Collect Highlights opens a new text document with all of your highlighted text. Each selection of text is also cited. You can change the citation style in Settings.
Vocabulary List is similar to Collect Highlights. It opens a new text document with all of your highlighted terms sorted into a table alongside definitions, an image of the term, and a space for your own notes.
Voice Note creates a voice recording of your own voice and inserts it as a comment on the document. You can also add your voice note directly into the document by adjusting the Read&Write settings.
Settings lets you change the appearance and functionality of the Read&Write toolbar. See below "Customize Read&Write in Settings" for options.
