This guide describes how to use Zotero to import, manage, and create citations for Canadian legal information.

Zotero for iOS

Zotero App for iPhone and iPad Users:

The Zotero app is available to download for free on the App Store for iPhone and iPad users. Use the Zotero app to collect, organize, annotate, cite and share resources in your Zotero library.

  1. Download the free Zotero app to your iPhone or iPad from the App Store.
  2. Once downloaded, open the app on your device and open the settings menu.
  3. Select "account" and enter your Zotero username and password to access your Zotero library.
    • If you have not created a Zotero account, create a free account using the online Zotero register page.

Note: Ensure that you have the latest version of Zotero downloaded on all of your devices. Having the same version of Zotero downloaded on all devices allows you to enjoy seamless syncing and access to all of your Zotero library content between devices.

Save Resources to Your Zotero Library:

If you do not have a Zotero account, register for a free account to begin saving resources to your Zotero library.

  1. Open Safari
  2. Locate the resource you want to save to your library, click Share and save to the Zotero app.
    • If desired, save the resource to a specific library folder and/or group.
    • Resources saved to your library can be organized in the Zotero iOS app and the Zotero desktop app.

To access your Zotero mobile library on your desktop, download the Zotero 6 desktop app (available for Windows, macOS, and Linux 32-bit). Visit the Zotero Installation Libguide for more information and detailed download instructions.

Zotero Storage:

Be advised that you can always collect and save an unlimited number of files to your Zotero library, but with the free version you can only store up to 300mb of attachments (i.e., .PDFs, images, web snapshots, and other files). To exceed the 300mb storage amount default, a paid subscription to Zotero is required.
