Education Research

A guide to starting points in education research at Queen's University, Kingston.

What is Community-Engaged Research?

The terms 'community-engaged' and 'participatory' refer to distinct sets of iterative, collaborative approaches that seek to meaningfully engage community members in both conducting and deriving meaning from research. Together, these approaches are grounded in an understanding of the researcher and participants as partners in co-creating research, contesting traditional research approaches that deem the researcher to be the 'expert' and 'knowledge producer and keeper'" (Caiola et al., 2014, as cited in Narendorf, Ali, Lea, & Pritzker, 2023).
