"A journey through the harsh Canadian Shield. Fly over the Ouimet Canyon, the boreal forest, rugged rocky outcrops that make up the Shield, a massive region of exposed, pre-cambrian and igneous rock dating back 4.5 billion years and covering more than 8 million square kilometres. It is also home to some of the richest mineral grounds in the world as seen at Amethyst Mine Panorama. The mine is a thousand feet long and up to 50 feet deep in one section. An amethyst is a semi-precious gemstone, just below the value of diamond. It is mined using dynamite and pressurized water, and is used to make jewelry and carvings. This mine is popular with tourists from Ontario and beyond."
